-
Messaging Platform: The in-app messaging system streamlines communication between dispatchers and drivers, reducing reliance on phone calls or third-party apps.
-
Geofencing: Custom geofences let fleets track vehicle activity around warehouses, delivery points, and yards. Managers receive alerts for entry and exit events, improving security and accountability.
-
IFTA Fuel Tax Reporting: Automatic mileage collection simplifies IFTA reporting, removing the need for manual calculations across state lines.
-
Electronic Logbook App: Available for iOS and Android, the Motive electronic logbook app makes it easy for drivers to update duty status, complete inspections, and stay compliant.
-
Driver Scorecards: Driver behavior is continuously tracked, with scorecards evaluating speeding, harsh braking, and rapid acceleration. Managers can use this data for training, rewards programs, or insurance documentation.
-
Vehicle Diagnostics: Real-time diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) alert managers to potential maintenance issues before they become breakdowns, reducing downtime.
-
7-Day Recap View: Drivers and managers can review the past seven days of HOS logs to plan schedules and avoid violations.
These features demonstrate why Motive remains one of the best ELD and fleet management platforms in 2025, balancing compliance, safety, and efficiency in one system.
 Advantages
Motive continues to stand out in 2025 because it combines affordability with advanced fleet management tools. Some of the key Motive ELD benefits include:
-
User-Friendly Design: Both the mobile app and web dashboard are simple and intuitive, even for drivers with little tech experience.
-
Fast Installation: Hardware setup takes less than 15 minutes, with cables available for both light-duty and heavy-duty vehicles.
-
Affordable Pricing: With hardware at $150 and plans starting at $25 per month, Motive ELD pricing is one of the most cost-effective ELD solutions available.
-
24/7 Customer Support: Around-the-clock support ensures quick help. Since 2023, response times have improved significantly, with most issues resolved within hours.
-
Comprehensive Fleet Tools: Fleet managers can generate detailed reports covering HOS compliance, safety events, fuel efficiency, and vehicle health.
-
Integrated Safety Features: AI Dashcams, driver scorecards, and proactive safety alerts give fleets better control over risk management.
-
Scalability: Motive scales easily from single trucks to large fleets, making it a flexible solution for growing businesses.
Disadvantages
Despite its many strengths, there are some Motive ELD drawbacks to consider:
-
Short-Haul Exception Handling: The ELD does not automatically detect short-haul exemptions. Drivers and dispatchers must manage this manually.
-
Log Edit Restrictions: Drivers cannot edit logs immediately after errors. Only dispatchers can make edits once the day closes, which may delay corrections.
-
Strict Contract Terms: Free hardware promotions usually require a three-year commitment, limiting flexibility for smaller fleets.
-
Upfront Payments: Some small fleets are required to pay a full year of service in advance, which can strain cash flow.
Why Do You Need The Motive ELD?
For fleets and independent drivers, the Motive ELD (formerly KeepTruckin) is more than just a compliance tool—it’s a way to simplify operations, reduce risks, and improve efficiency.
Here’s why many fleets continue to choose Motive in 2025:
-
Stay Compliant Anywhere: Whether you’re on the road or at a remote site, Motive keeps you FMCSA-compliant. The device connects via Bluetooth or USB to your smartphone or tablet, ensuring logs are always updated.
-
Connect Across Vehicles: With multiple cable options, Motive can connect to almost any truck, making it easy for mixed fleets to stay compliant without extra hardware complexity.
-
Prevent HOS Violations: Motive’s system provides alerts before drivers approach their limits, reducing violations and helping drivers focus on the road.
-
Simple for Drivers and Office Staff: The Motive app is designed for ease of use, making it simple for drivers to log hours and for office staff to review and manage compliance data.
Taken together, these features make Motive ELD devices one of the most reliable and cost-effective ELD solutions for both small operations and larger fleets looking to balance compliance with efficiency.
New Motive Fleet Management Tools for 2025

These Motive fleet tools demonstrate how the platform continues to evolve beyond compliance, providing practical solutions for daily operations in 2025.
Staying Ahead: What’s Brewing in Motive Fleet Management for Fall 2025
Motive continues to invest heavily in technology that goes beyond compliance, focusing on efficiency, safety, and smarter fleet management. In 2025, several updates are shaping how fleets use the Motive ELD platform to reduce costs and improve performance.
Reinventing Spend Management
Fuel remains one of the biggest expenses for fleets. Motive’s Savings Finder tool now helps drivers locate partner fuel stations with the best discounts along their routes. Fleet managers can also use Merchant Blocking to prevent purchases at high-cost stations, improving control over expenses and reducing overall fuel bills.
Ushering a New Era in Vehicle Tracking

Upgrades in User Experience
The Motive dashboard has been redesigned for speed and ease of use. Features like inspections, document uploads, and HOS monitoring are now simpler to navigate, helping both drivers and managers save time on daily tasks.
Prioritizing Road Safety
Driver safety remains at the center of Motive’s updates. New AI-powered in-cab alerts warn drivers of unsafe lane changes, speeding, and high-risk behaviors in real time. These alerts reduce accidents by intervening before risky situations escalate.
Safeguarding Driver Privacy

With these updates, Motive continues to position itself as a forward-thinking leader in fleet management technology for 2025, offering fleets safer operations, smarter cost controls, and better driver support.
What Is the Motive ELD Device?
The Motive ELD device (formerly KeepTruckin) is a small piece of hardware that plugs directly into a vehicle’s diagnostic port (ECM). Once connected, it automatically records driving activity, vehicle data, and compliance information.

Cost-effective compliance
One of the biggest reasons fleets choose Motive ELD (formerly KeepTruckin) is its balance of affordability and functionality. Compared to top competitors like Samsara, Verizon Connect, and Geotab, Motive pricing makes it one of the most accessible ELD options in 2025.
-
Hardware cost: $150 per device
-
Monthly plans: Starting at $25 per vehicle
-
Contracts: Standard one-year commitment (vs. 3–5 years required by some competitors)
Motive also runs limited-time promotions that make it even more attractive. These often include free ELD hardware, dashcams, or discounted subscriptions with multi-year commitments, giving fleets more value upfront.
For smaller fleets and owner-operators, this affordability means you can access a modern, full-featured ELD system without a heavy investment. For larger fleets, Motive provides scalability with advanced safety and management tools, still at a competitive price.
In short, Motive remains one of the most affordable ELD solutions for achieving FMCSA compliance without sacrificing performance.
Size Category
Motive’s platform is designed to scale with your business, making it suitable for both small fleets and large operations.
-
Owner-operators and small fleets: Motive offers easy setup, affordable pricing, and essential compliance tools that don’t require IT teams or complex training.

KeepTruckin ELD (Now Motive) with Cellular
One of the most important upgrades Motive has made in recent years is the addition of built-in cellular connectivity to its ELD devices. Unlike traditional systems that rely solely on a driver’s phone for data transmission, the Motive cellular ELD has its own dedicated connection.
Why this matters:
-
In traditional BYOD (bring-your-own-device) setups, data depends on the driver’s smartphone connection. If the phone dies, disconnects, or loses coverage, compliance logs may be delayed.
-
With Motive’s integrated cellular ELD, data continues to flow in real time even if the driver’s phone is offline.
Key benefits of Motive cellular ELD:
-
Continuous GPS tracking and vehicle monitoring
-
Reliable compliance reporting with no risk of gaps
-
Real-time access to driver performance, IFTA reporting, fault codes, and fuel usage
-
Seamless integration with the Motive dashboard for managers
This upgrade makes Motive especially valuable for fleets with mixed operations. Drivers who must log hours connect via Bluetooth or USB, while exempt drivers can skip pairing and just drive. Fleet managers, meanwhile, get uninterrupted visibility into vehicles, performance, and compliance data.
By eliminating the risk of lost data, the Motive cellular ELD ensures fleets remain compliant and managers always have access to real-time fleet tracking.
Importance Of KeepTruckin ELD With Cellular
The Motive cellular ELD is more than just a compliance tool—it’s designed to give fleets uninterrupted visibility into their operations. By embedding a dedicated cellular connection inside the device, Motive ensures that critical compliance data and telematics are always transmitted in real time.
Why it’s important:
-
Mixed fleet compatibility: Drivers required to log HOS can connect their devices via Bluetooth or USB, while exempt drivers can skip pairing. This flexibility makes Motive ELD devices ideal for fleets with diverse vehicle types.
-
Continuous vehicle tracking: Even if a driver’s phone disconnects, the ELD keeps sending GPS data and performance metrics to the Motive dashboard.
-
Comprehensive telematics: Fleet managers gain access to real-time insights, including driver performance, IFTA mileage reporting, fuel consumption, diagnostic fault codes, and safety alerts.
-
Reduced compliance risks: By keeping logs accurate and uninterrupted, fleets avoid the gaps that can occur with BYOD-only systems.
For fleets of any size, these Motive cellular ELD benefits make the system a powerful tool for both compliance and operational efficiency. Managers always know where vehicles are, how they’re performing, and whether drivers are staying within compliance—without depending on driver devices to stay connected.
Installing And Assigning Keep Truckin ELD
Motive ELD has designed its system to be quick and straightforward to set up. Most fleets can complete installation in minutes without needing outside technicians.
Step 1: Install the Motive ELD device
-
Turn off the vehicle’s engine.
-
Locate the diagnostic port (6-pin, 9-pin, or OBD-II).
-
Attach the appropriate Motive cable to the port. For heavy-duty vehicles, turn the collar clockwise to secure it.
-
Connect the other end of the cable to the ELD device and tighten the thumbscrews.
-
Wait for the indicator lights: flashing during setup, then solid when the connection is established. The left light turns green once GPS is locked.
-
Mount the ELD securely on the dashboard, near the windshield for best GPS signal.
Step 2: Assign the ELD to a vehicle
-
Log into the Motive Fleet Dashboard.
-
Go to the Vehicles tab and select the vehicle.
-
Under Electronic Logging Device, click + Assign ELD.
-
Choose the correct device by serial number.
-
Save the assignment.
Step 3: Connect driver accounts
-
Each driver should log in using the Motive Driver App.
-
Drivers connect to the ELD via Bluetooth or USB.
-
Team driving is supported: multiple drivers can connect to the same ELD, logging hours separately.
Additional notes before installation:
-
Most vehicles use 6-pin, 9-pin, or OBD-II ports.
-
Mack and Volvo trucks may need a special harness (provided free when requested).
-
Optional Y-cables are available for fleets wanting to conceal wiring behind dashboard panels.
With this process, Motive ELD installation and setup can be done quickly, giving fleets real-time compliance and tracking without delays.

people ,, never use this company , they send you an invoice and if you want to make changes , you are screwed,
they sent an invoice dec 1 , due dec 2 , tried to call but of course all people i tried to call goes straight to voicemail and when i did actually speak to a human, they said you have to make changes to your account 30 days prior to any invoicing
how the hell are you going to mke changes to your account 30 days prior when they only give you 1 days notice that the invoice is due .
absolutley horrible and unaccountable customer service
Hi Leonard, thanks for sharing your experience. It’s unfortunate that this has happened to you. Motive generally puts out a good product although their service has been an increasing topic of concern. Hopefully they can improve their customer service if they want to retain and get new clients.
I signed up for Motive but never got a chance to use the product. The items was still in the box. I got charged and called to cancel my membership and was still getting charged. I tried to send them the product back. They want take it. I tried every way possible to cancel the membership and they said they did it but really didn’t. Now, they want me to pay over $3000 for a membership that I never used and trying to sue me. I would never recommend these people to anyone.
Hi Tonja, I’m really sorry to hear you’re having such a tough time with Motive; they are a big company, but they can also make mistakes.
As for your concern, although you get charged monthly, there is an initial contract of 12 months, it is possible that you are getting charged because of that. Hopefully, you will be able to resolve the issue.

Absolute WORST customer service ive ever experienced……………… all of their under trained, script reading work from home agents that are totally uselss. You request mangers contact information and they refuse…..
Stay tuned for my 3 week ordeal with them that will make anyone RUN from motive……..
Thank you for sharing your experience, Peter. We’re truly sorry to hear about the disappointing customer service you’ve received from Motive. Your feedback is extremely important to us and our community. While it’s disheartening to learn about your ordeal, we look forward to reading more about your documented experience. This will not only help us understand the specific issues you faced but also serve as a learning experience for everyone, including Motive representatives who read our visitors’ reviews. Your insights are valuable and can assist others in making informed decisions. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
Worst customer service, Fred Cook did very bad customer services, I am in trouble with them from last two years with them, they are getting worse and worse. I don’t recommend it
I don’t wish the troubles I have had with Motive, formerly Keep Truckin, on anyone. I had originally purchased one ELD and it costs more than this review says, and it is in the contract that you can’t reveal the price you actually pay to others, but anyhow, I temporarily added an ELD to a different truck and was paying double. I had a sick family member that I was caring for and ended up canceling the service for the second truck. Over a year later I realized that Motive was still double billing me. I called and was told that while it did show that I had cancelled the second ELD they had not stopped billing me. They refused to refund any money. I told them to stop double billing me and they made it real inconvenient with having to provide serial numbers and I sent emails plus many painful phone conversations with everyone saying they are managers. A couple months later, I realized they were still double billing me because it was being auto paid to my credit card. I tried to get it cancelled again but they insist trying to double bill me. I had to cancel my credit card and they are still calling trying to double bill me. They have the worst billing team. They will say something and in the same conversation deny that they said it. It is so time consuming dealing with this company and I was going to just change companies but my drivers is comfortable with this system and don’t want to change. I also found out from Motive staff that you only have access to your driver logs while you have service. You do not have access to old records once you stop the service. Terrible business. If someone is recommending this business I would bet they are getting a kickback. The company that recommended them to me said they no longer recommend them but I seen today that Pilot flying J truck recommends them which really surprised me. Pilot Flying J should learn something from Budweiser, be careful who you tie your brand too. Love’s Truck stops are normally nearby.
Hi Jonathan, thank you for sharing your experience. All comments, good or bad, are welcome because it helps others make informed decisions. Anytime one of our readers/followers has a complaint, we hope they find a solution. Although ELDdevices.net has no control over customer service complaints about Motive or any other company, we do what we can to help. FYI… in the past, Motive has contacted us about comments users have left on our site regarding authenticity. Unfortunately we have no way of confirming whether comments are genuine or not. My point is that this means Motive monitors the comments on this site! Why? Maybe they cross reference names of commenters and their customers to resolve issues?… I’m not sure. But hopefully someone from Motive will see your comment and reach out to help you.
its really interesting how much they cahrged you per month.

Cost per truck is over $100 a month. That is eld plus camera. Not 25 dollars as advertised.
The prices are $25-50 depending on what services you choose with the ELD, also depends on your fleet size, larger fleet has cheaper cost per vehicle. And, the dashcam services are available separately, maybe they are also charging some fees for internet with dashcams. I recommend you talk with the helpline and ask from them about the details of all the charges and what services are included in your package.
Thanks for shedding some light on possible issues, it will help anyone else facing the same problem.
I have a small company from Manitoba Canada of 5 trucks. 2 trucks will be required to run an eld . I need someone to please call me at 2043848086 to talk about setting up an eld.
Hi Michael,
To properly assist you, we’d need you to fill out our questionnaire: https://elddevices.net/free-consultation-eld-form/

If you are thinking of purchasing a eld through motive pls consider another company. These people are scammers, their customer service is terrible, they try to upsell you even when you have told them numerous times that you are not interested. We have been extremely frustrated with this company and I would not recommend what so ever. We have paid in full for our eld’s and they have after a few months removed them from our platform and therefore they do not work in the trucks anymore, then they come back to us and tell us that we didn’t pay for them and that we must pay again for them to be activated.
Also many times what they quote you and then what you actually see on your invoice and receipt do not match up. Their billing is beyond confusing.

I was think that it is only me having bad experiences with this company but after reading the other people reviews I realized that I have made biggest mistake doing business with company. This is the worst company I have ever deal with. They are 100% scammers I have talked and agreed on the price and service after paying them almost $500 I received wrong dash-came I ordered dull facing camera they sent me road facing after contacting them consecutively for a week finally they said they are going to send us the replacement. Now it’s been one month waiting for them to ship but they even didn’t ship the camera replacement. Trying to contact them every single day but no answer. I am trying to get in touch with management team ASAP. I have already filled the claim against this company on attorney’s general office about there fraudulent business.
Hi, my name is Lateisha Davis and I’ve been a customer for a year now. I’m totally unsatisfied with customer service bill department. I’ve had an open case since March 2022. Motive/Keep Truckin was processing payments on my personal account for another customer. I’ve explained to multiple agents that I have no affliction with company. The company has taken $1018 from my account and only refunded $350 June 15. I’m still placing calls to company to obtain my funds. I’ve been getting the run around. Agents are dismissing calls by saying there’s an open case. Again I disputed charges back in March. I’ve uploaded bank statements verifying charges. I will be taking this company to court. A case shouldn’t take months to resolve. Unfortunately I can’t opt from agreement from what I was told until 2025. I’ve exhausted with contacting billing department and hopefully you’re able to escalate.

THE WORST! It’s a big long, buckle up…
Firstly – they allowed someone that did NOT have the authorization to put my company under any contracts to start a new contract with them. Had I had the chance to review their racket of a contract and it’s terms, I never would’ve agreed to them.
We decided to close our business and cancel service with them. I bought their ELD and now would like to sell it back to them or to another company in need of it. Keep Truckin aka Motive refuse to allow that. I can’t send it back, they won’t take it. I can’t sell it, because they refuse to assign it to another company. The first rep told me they don’t have the ability to do it (but they’ll lease the equipment and can reprogram them for the next customer).
Then I got the TRUTH – really, they were losing money. Apparently other companies were buying the equiptment and selling them when they no longer needed them and then asking KeepTruckin aka Motive to set up a new account, they wanted to use the service. So they were losing money on the new customer because the new customer didn’t have to purchase or lease the equipment.
So – I’m stuck with a subscription that I didn’t agree to, but they won’t allow me to lessen the amount of data I have. They said that we can’t change the terms after the contract is implace but they certainly allowed me to add data about a month after getting started.
And – I’m stuck with equipment I can’t use.

Horrible business, they trick you saying they have a promotion for free hardwares, but it actually a contract for 2-5 years that they will not disclosed with you. Once I find out I sign into a 5 years contract, I called their customer services, multiple times, and all they say is that the way it is, they can’t change anything now. Please avoid this business, it scamming people into contract that they are not aware of.
They locked me in for 60 months contract without my knowledge. I asked the agent, Tim Shaw, multiple time if this is month to month and can I cancel at anytime, he said YES! Then I later found out that I was locked into a 60 months contract when I was trying to cancel their dashcam service. I contacted their customer services multiple times and everytime they try to blame it on me for not carefully reading the contract, but refuse to take responsibility for their agent scamming me. I even asked them if they recorded phone calls between their agent and I, they said yes. They said they listen to all of it and did not hear Tim confirming it’s a month to month. I then ask them if they can send me those recording and they refused, saying is their company property 😂 Okkk! Who in their right mind would lock themselves in a 5 years contract with an ELD service company on the first year of opening their business? Now Im stuck with them for 5 years, ain’t going to use them ever again after this stupid contract is over, which is in 2024. TRUCKERS PLEASE BEWARE OF THIS UNETHICAL BUSINESS!

Worst customer service out there. Had a driver on his 34 hour reset came and got the truck, took it home to wash bed sheets, clean the truck and load personal items in, he forgot to select personal conveyance and it logged him on duty driving. He drove like 10 miles. Called customer service to have it corrected and they refused. Apparently I’m paying for a service that they can dictate about drivers making a honest mistake. Now his 34 hour reset is all screwed up.
We entered into an agreement with Keeptruckin to establish a ELD (Electronic Logging Devices) a service that we cannot use without the actual device that connect with the vehicle, And was told that there is a grace period with an option to cancel. Yet to our surprise the billing started from the time you give Keeptruckin your credit card number, even though they will not provide you with s service since the device is not shipped nor received by us. And we sent an email to support and sales person as instructed by the website, we haven’t received any reply back from either, until a 2nd email was sent and a call to support to request a call back.
Now Alan Samuel’s the sale person telling us in order to cancel( Even thought) the device was shipped late, never hooked nor used, we will have to pay the remaining of the 35 mouths!

Customer service bugs the hell out of me every other month to upgrade. Think I’ll go another route.
positive reviews are all fake. keeptruckin has industry worst customer support, they will over charge you, support reps are all off shore with fake north american names that dont have any knowledge about the product, have eld shortage so they cannot ship for 3 months but they dont tell you that when signing contract only after. this company will disrupt your operations 12 times a year do not get stuck with them. have to block credit cards to stop them from charging
Hi Ray, thanks for your input. All reviews in elddevices.net are real and made by actual Keep Truckin users. Our contacts with Keep Tuckin representatives are US-based. We are not aware if there are some representatives offshore but it is possible since many companies in every industry use remote call centers.
The device came a month late, and my driver had a chance to use this device on another truck, and preferred to stay with our current provider who does not charge a monthly service fee. The driver stated the device did not track his hours well enough on a continuous basis like the current system. Unfortunately I had signed up with a contract for services of 50 dollars per month. It is a two year contract and they will not let me even lower the service plan to 20 dollars a month, although I am sure the would have changed the contract from 20 to 50 dollars a month at any time. So basically I can going to lose the cost of the device and 1200 dollars over two years to this company who will not provide me with any service, nor will they negotiate with me and at least allow me to ride out the contract at 20 per month. You can get much better service and equipment without a monthly fee. This is a complete rip off. Do not use this devise or this company.
Worst customer service i have ever encountered in my whole entire life!Ordered keeptruckin and the representative lied to me so as to get me on board.I requested for cancellation since the hardware was going to take 1 month to be shipped but i am being told your request will be rejected!Rude unprofessional customer service with attitude,I need my $480 refunded since i don’t have your product!I’ll never ever use keeptruckin,

I have a fleet company with multiple trucks, the gps constantly fails to perform and when I talk to the rep they tell me they will escalate it but i dont get a cal until 2-3 weeks later. They don’t want to refund me for their bad service either. Everything was ok until the gps stopped working…. And this has been the 20th time I’ve had this issue and am simply fed up! Not the company to go with if you heavily depend on gps stay away!!!
Hi Jason, thanks for your feedback, I haven’t heard about GPS failures before… However, I am aware that Keep Truckin customer support can be improved. My suggestion is to be consistent because eventually you will find a customer service representative that will be able to solve your issue.

Its a good system BUT the customer service is SHIT!
Forgot to update my credit card info after I changed accounts. They shut me down over the weeked for a measly $21. Have had this service for over a yr, never missed a payment. Yet my old card doesn’t go through and OFF it is. No one available to take payments over the weekends. Cannot update card info their website and to get a hold of some one it takes 40 mins during the week. Then they transfer you cause it’s the wrong department and the line hangs up. I went through this BS system over 8 times before i got a telling me it’s my fault to begin with.
For a company like this that has trucks using their system 24/7 including holidays…… getting shut down on a weekend for $21 is real petty shit. Is this company gonna go broke if they wait till Monday to get paid?
No! Yet, they are very quick to log you out for $21.
I expected more from this company.
I will be looking for another form of elog.
i NEED IT FOR MY SEMI.

1 truck that I need to keep the law off of
I heard the ELD unit is an amazing tool, unfortunately, I wasn’t able to use the one I purchased. I was sent the wrong unit, no problem I will just exchange it. NOT! Within 5 days and speaking to 6 different KeepTruckin representatives and being told REPEATEDLY by one billing and invoice personnel (“Sir you don’t listen”), and having been told REPEATEDLY ” It is Keep Truckin company policy that we cannot exchange the item until you subscribe and purchase a service plan.” Mind you, I had already created an account and decided on the plan I would select once I received the equipment. REPEATEDLY I have been brushed off, transferred, etc. it has been 3 weeks with no response, actions nor communication from Keep Truckin. I did nothing wrong other than to purchase what I was told was the best ELD equipment out there. Why would I be treated as so, I have no clue? Anyone wanting to purchase the best ELD on the market please let me know. Oh, by the way, the unit I have is for a tractor-trailer, I have a 1 ton dually.
Representative please call to help setup carrier account and ELD
